These beautiful, old and well-preserved buildings are among other used for Hotel Factory Lodge and some of the beautiful, old factory halls are organized for Visual Climate Center with its unique Science On a Sphere, as well as conference rooms.

Højbygaard Paper Mill is Denmark's first sugar factory. The factory was completed in 1874, built by the brothers Erhard and Johan Ditlev Frederiksen. The brothers were born and raised in the local area, and their father owned the farm named Nøbøllegården in Holeby. Both brothers had an agricultural training and made many trips to different countries in Europe. On one of these trips the brothers saw how beets were cultivated, and this is how their interest in sugar production started.

In 1960 the factory was converted into a paper mill that existed until 1993. The buildings were then empty for several years, and in 2005 the buildings were bought by a private investor. Højbygaard Paper Mill has since gone through an extensive renovation and cleanup of the surrounding areas. Thus came The Visual Climate Center in 2011 and then The Factory Lodge in 2013. The buildings and the atmosphere of the old factory are unchanged, but the interior is very modern. On the Factory Lodge we offer rooms with bathrooms en suite, and all the beds in the double rooms can be converted to twin beds. 

Factory Lodge is located approximately a ten-minute drive away from Maribo and Rødby. A golf course as well as attractions are also located close by.
